
Overview
Mount Arashima is a 1,523-meter peak in Ono City, Fukui Prefecture. It is an independent peak rising southeast of central Ono City and is also known as Ono-Fuji. It is the only mountain in Fukui Prefecture selected among the 100 Famous Japanese Mountains.

History
Two traditions describe the mountain's opening: one attributes it to Taicho, as with Mount Haku, and the other to Gyoki, who is said to have opened it to enshrine the Sacred Kannon Bodhisattva. Arashima Shrine, a minor shrine listed in the Engishiki, stands at the summit, and the peak has long been regarded as a mountain of worship.
Access
The mountain lies in Ono City, Fukui Prefecture, rising to the southeast of the city center. Its range is designated within the Okuetsu Kogen Prefectural Natural Park.
Best season
In seasons suited to hiking, the independent peak offers wide views. A well-paced climbing plan is advisable.
