History

Since the days of the former Misaki Town, the Port of Misaki has supported life and shipping at the peninsula's far end. Through municipal mergers it now belongs to Ikata Town, and Ehime Prefecture manages it as a local port. In recent years its role in disaster preparedness has grown, with designation as a disaster-response base port tasked with receiving and transporting people and supplies during emergencies, strengthening its place as a foundation for local safety.

Access

The port lies near the tip of the Sadamisaki Peninsula, around latitude 33.39 and longitude 132.12. Reached by heading west along the main road that runs down the peninsula's spine, access is primarily by car. Whether sea routes and sailings are available, and their times, depend on operating conditions, so check the latest guidance with Ehime Prefecture, Ikata Town, or the operator before using the port.

Best season

For enjoying the sea and peninsula scenery, the clear air of spring and autumn is most comfortable. Paired with a drive along the long, narrow Sadamisaki Peninsula, a visit lets you savor views of the Hoyo Strait and the Inland Sea. Summer sun is strong and the peninsula can be windy in winter, so dress for the season. Since weather and sea conditions change the port's mood, it is reassuring to check before setting out.
