Overview
Arouzu Port (Arouzu-ko) is a small local harbor in the Arouzu district of Hakata-cho, Imabari City, Ehime Prefecture. It sits on the shore of Hakata Island, one of the Geiyo Islands linked by the famous Shimanami Kaido, where the calm waters of the Seto Inland Sea and passing boats feel close at hand. Managed by Imabari City, it serves quietly as a gateway between island life and the sea. There is nothing showy here, and that is precisely its charm: an unhurried, unspoiled harbor where island time flows gently.

History
Arouzu Port was opened on the shore of the Arouzu settlement on Hakata Island as a local harbor supporting the island's daily life and shipping. Hakata Island, famed for salt production, and the surrounding Geiyo Islands have long lived alongside the maritime trade of the Seto Inland Sea, and small ports like this one carried the comings and goings of people and goods. Today the harbor is managed by Imabari City. For its detailed history, please check official sources.
Access
The port lies on the coast of Hakata Island, near 34.20 degrees north and 133.09 degrees east. From either the Honshu or Shikoku side, the Hakatajima Interchange on the Nishiseto Expressway (Shimanami Kaido) is the gateway; from there, local island roads lead down to the waterfront. As public transport and harbor use can change, checking the latest official information is recommended.
Best season
Spring to early summer, when the Seto Inland Sea is calm, and autumn, when the air is clear, are the most pleasant seasons. Summer brings a cooling island breeze, while winter wraps the port in quiet with few visitors. The hour when the sea turns golden at dusk is especially beautiful, making it a fine stop for a short break on a Shimanami Kaido cycling ride.
