
Overview
Kashima, also known as Hojo Kashima, is a small island off the coast of the Hojo district of Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture. It belongs to the Setonaikai National Park, measures about 1.5 kilometers in circumference, and rises to about 114 meters at its peak. Sika deer live on the island, and they are designated a natural treasure of Ehime Prefecture.

History
Kashima lies off the coast of the Hojo district of Matsuyama in Ehime Prefecture and belongs to Setonaikai National Park. Sika deer have inhabited the island for a very long time, and they are designated a natural treasure of Ehime Prefecture. An enclosure where visitors can feed and photograph the deer is set up at the east end of the island, north of the ferry pier.
Access
The island can be reached by ferry from Hojo Port. As the schedule may vary with the season and weather, checking before visiting is advisable.
Best season
For enjoying the beach and walking in the forest, the settled weather of spring through autumn is the most comfortable time. As this is a coastal island, it is worth keeping an eye on wind and ferry-service conditions.
