History
Shikoku is a warm region where natural snowfall cannot always be relied upon, so this resort introduced snow-making machines to keep its slopes in reliable condition through the season. Making the most of its mountain-valley setting at Oda-Miyama, it has become a beloved local hub for winter sports, and the name Oda-Miyama Ski Resort has stuck to this day.
Access
The resort lies in the Oda-Miyama district of Uchiko in Ehime, near latitude 33.54 and longitude 132.83. Most visitors arrive by car from the Matsuyama area, but the mountain roads call for winter equipment such as studless tyres or chains. Opening hours, road conditions and parking vary with the year and the day's weather, so check official sources before visiting.
Best season
The resort usually opens in early December, with skiing possible until around the end of March. Thanks to its snow-making machines it holds a good surface not only in the depths of winter but also at the start and close of the season. Pick a clear day and you can enjoy the snowy scenery alongside views of Mount Ishizuchi and the Shikoku Karst.
