Overview
Enshou-ji is a temple of the Shingon-shu Buzan-ha school in Matsudo City, Chiba Prefecture. It stands in a residential area near the Matsudo townscape, not far from the same-school Kichizyou-ji. The name Ensho carries a Buddhist resonance of wishing for complete, perfect enlightenment and fulfillment. It is not a grand tourist temple, but for that very reason it is a community-rooted place where, with few other visitors, you can quietly join your hands in a calm span of time.

History
The Shingon-shu Buzan-ha school carries on the esoteric Buddhism of Kobo Daishi Kukai and has its head temple at Hase-dera in Nara. Enshou-ji is one of the Matsudo temples keeping this tradition alive. Detailed records of its founding date, first abbot, and principal image are, however, limited in public sources. When visiting, it is best to check the history through the notices on the grounds or official information. Several Buzan-ha temples stand nearby, offering clues for tracing Matsudo's history of faith.
Access
The temple lies around latitude 35.79, longitude 139.89 in a residential area close to the Matsudo townscape. It can be reached from the Matsudo Station area on the JR Joban Line and Shin-Keisei Line, and is easy to reach by train from central Tokyo. As it often stands along narrow streets, public transport is convenient. Please confirm the exact nearest station and parking through official information.
Best season
Spring to early summer, when seasonal color comes to the grounds, and autumn, when clear air makes worship pleasant, are recommended. Shingon temples gather visitors for the New Year, the equinox weeks, and Obon. As the detailed schedule of events differs each year, checking official information before your visit is reassuring.
