History
Zenshō-ji belongs to the Buzan school of the Shingon sect and transmits the teachings of esoteric Shingon Buddhism. Counted among the stations of the Shimōsa Thirty-Three Kannon Pilgrimage, it has welcomed pilgrims centered on devotion to the bodhisattva Kannon. Matsudo prospered as a post town on the Mito Highway, a place where people and goods passed alongside Edo River boat traffic, and the temple is thought to have supported faith amid that daily life. For the founding date and detailed origins, please refer to on-site notices or official information.
