
Overview
Iwakiyama Shrine is a Shinto shrine on the southeastern foot of Mount Iwaki in Hyakuzawa, Hirosaki, Aomori Prefecture. Known by the affectionate names O-Iwaki-sama, O-Yama, and Oku-Nikko, it held the former rank of a minor national shrine and is regarded as the ichinomiya of Tsugaru Province. Parts of its shrine buildings are designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan.

History
The shrine is said to trace its origins to the year 780, and held the former rank of a minor national shrine, regarded as the ichinomiya of Tsugaru Province. It has long been cherished locally under names such as O-Iwaki-sama, O-Yama, and Oku-Nikko. Parts of its buildings are designated Important Cultural Properties of Japan, and it has been passed down as a place of worship facing Mount Iwaki.
