History
The island lies within the Shimokita Peninsula Quasi-National Park, and on December 10, 1975 it was designated a marine park area (formerly called an "underwater park"), a status intended to protect the surrounding waters and coastal environment.
Access
The island sits roughly 800 meters off the coast of Wakinosawa in Mutsu, and is designated as a marine section of Shimokita Peninsula Quasi-National Park. There is no way to land on it, so it is seen from the Wakinosawa shoreline.
Best season
As an uninhabited island out at sea, there is no landing for tourists here; it is viewed from the mainland shore instead. Summer, when Mutsu Bay tends to be calmer with clearer visibility, is the easiest time to make out the island's silhouette.
