
Overview
The Aomori Museum of Art is a museum in the city of Aomori that opened on July 13, 2006. Designed by architect Jun Aoki, its striking white building appears partly buried into the ground. The museum holds many works by artists connected to Aomori, above all Yoshitomo Nara, whose large sculpture Aomori Dog has become the museum's beloved symbol.

History
The museum opened on July 13, 2006. Designed by Jun Aoki, its partially buried structure takes inspiration from the neighboring Sannai-Maruyama archaeological site. It has collected and exhibited works by artists born in or connected to Aomori, including Shiko Munakata, Shuji Terayama, Yoshitomo Nara, and Tohl Narita.

Best season
As an indoor facility it can be enjoyed all year round, though winter has special charm when the white building is dusted with snow and the outdoor Aomori Dog stands in the cold.
