Overview

Roadside Station Takanosu sits in the Tsuzureko area of Kitaakita City, Akita Prefecture, along National Route 7, under the nickname “Village of the Great Drum.” Its defining feature is the attached drum museum, the “Hall of the Great Drum,” honoring the tradition of enormous taiko drums handed down here. More than a rest stop, it is a cultural anchor where travelers through the northern interior can encounter the region’s sounds and festival heritage.

Highlights

  • A culturally rich roadside station with the attached Hall of the Great Drum
  • Exhibits conveying Tsuzureko’s tradition of enormous taiko drums
  • A station with history, opened in 1993 among the prefecture’s earliest
  • A Route 7 base for drives toward Odate and Aomori

History

Registered on 22 April 1993, it is one of the earliest roadside stations in Akita Prefecture. Built around the great-drum tradition of the Tsuzureko district, it was developed as a place to preserve and share that heritage. The adjoining Hall of the Great Drum lifts the station from a simple stopover into a place to see and learn.

Access

The station lies in Tsuzureko, Kitaakita City, near 40.25°N, 140.38°E, facing National Route 7. It is on the northern-interior route linking Akita City with Odate and Aomori, well suited to a stop by car; by rail, travel from the nearest station. Opening hours, closed days, and admission details may change, so please confirm through official sources.

Best season

Because the indoor Hall of the Great Drum is its core, the station is enjoyable year-round and little affected by weather. If the region’s drum culture interests you, timing a visit to a festival or event lets you savor both the exhibits and the local energy. Check event schedules through official information when planning.
