
Overview
The Akita Museum of Art (Hirano Masakichi Collection) is an art museum located in the Area Nakaichi district of Akita City, Akita Prefecture. It holds many works by Tsuguharu Foujita (Léonard Foujita), centered on the 1930s, most of which come from the collection of Masakichi Hirano (1895–1989), a wealthy Akita collector who was a friend of the artist. The building was designed by architect Tadao Ando.

History
The original Akita Prefectural Museum of Art opened on May 5, 1967. On September 28, 2013, it relocated from the nearby Senshu Park and reopened at its present site in the Area Nakaichi district, opening anew during the Heisei era.

The museum stands in the Area Nakaichi district in central Akita City and is within walking distance of the surrounding town center.
Best season
As an indoor museum it can be visited year round, and visits can be timed to the changing rotating exhibitions.
