Overview

Yasu Falls is a celebrated waterfall of about 90 metres set deep in the Nakanomata Ravine at Ani-Uttо in Kitaakita, Akita Prefecture. It falls in two levels, a main upper drop of about 60 metres and a lower drop of about 30 metres, with a broad basin spreading between them. Standing quietly in the depths of the gorge, it carries the atmosphere of a true hidden retreat.

History

Yasu Falls is known as one of "Japan's Top 100 Waterfalls", a list published by the Japanese Ministry of the Environment in 1990. Set in the depths of the Nakanomata Ravine along the Yoneshiro River, it combines an upper drop of about 60 metres and a lower drop of about 30 metres for a total of roughly 90 metres.

Access

The site is at Ani-Uttо in Kitaakita, Akita Prefecture, in the inner reaches of the Nakanomata Ravine. Access follows the ravine, and the basin between the upper and lower levels is said to be reachable on a relatively easy hike.
