Isedōtai Site

Overview

The Isedōtai Site is a late Jōmon period archaeological site in Wakigami, Kitaakita, Akita Prefecture, centered on stone circles from the first half of the late Jōmon period. It is a National Historic Site of Japan and, on 27 July 2021, was inscribed as part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Jōmon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan."

History

The remains, centered on stone circles from the first half of the late Jōmon period, were discovered during construction of a highway near Ōdate–Noshiro Airport and designated a National Historic Site of Japan in 2001. In 2021 the site was inscribed as part of the "Jōmon Prehistoric Sites in Northern Japan" World Heritage Site.
