
Overview
Ōgata Fuji is an artificial hill in the central part of Ogata Village, Minamiakita District, Akita Prefecture. Ogata Village was created by reclaiming Lake Hachirō and lies entirely below sea level in a zero-meter zone. The hill was built so that its height above the surroundings is 3.776 meters, exactly one-thousandth of Mount Fuji, with the summit set at an elevation of 0 meters.

History
It was completed on 3 June 1995, on Surveying Day. Around 1994, Ogata Village requested that the Geospatial Information Authority of Japan list it on topographic maps, but the request was initially set aside. It is now shown on topographic maps as a feature of land use.

The hill is located in the central part of Ogata Village, Minamiakita District, Akita Prefecture, amid the flat land reclaimed from Lake Hachirō.

The flat scenery of this below-sea-level zone can be enjoyed year-round, and calm-weather periods make the surroundings easy to survey.
