History

Shoju-in belongs to the Jodo school and takes Ryusho-zan as its mountain name. It is designated the 13th temple of the Honen Shonin Chita Twenty-Five Sacred Sites, a pilgrimage closely tied to Honen, the founder of the Jodo school, and it has passed on to the community the Pure Land teaching that treasures the nenbutsu recitation to Amida Buddha.
