Themed on the world of the “mononoke” spirits that live within Studio Ghibli’s films, it is an area where the nature of the satoyama countryside blends with the imagery of story. Rather than relying on flashy attractions, it offers the kind of experience Ghibli Park is known for, sensing the presence of a tale as you walk through the scenery. Ghibli Park has been developed in stages within the Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park (Moricoro Park) in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture, and Mononoke Village was newly added as one part of it. It is noted for a design that makes use of the satoyama landscape, and since opening it has drawn attention as a new destination for experiencing the world of Studio Ghibli. For the latest exhibits and experiences, it is best to check official information.

Access

The area lies within the Expo 2005 Aichi Commemorative Park in Nagakute, Aichi Prefecture (around 35.18N, 137.09E). From the Nagoya direction, the nearest station is Ai-Chikyuhaku-kinen-koen on the Linimo (Aichi Rapid Transit Tobu Kyuryo Line), from which you enter the park. As Ghibli Park often uses an advance reservation system, be sure to confirm in advance through official information how to obtain tickets, the entry times, and the in-park route to Mononoke Village.

Best season

The satoyama of the Expo 2005 Commemorative Park changes its face with each season, from fresh green spring and deep-green summer to autumn foliage and clear winter air, so nature and story resonate whenever you visit. Because much of the experience involves walking outdoors, the mild seasons of spring and autumn are especially comfortable. As crowd levels and ticket availability vary by season, it is wise to check the official reservation information as well when choosing when to go.

Did you know?

💡 Mononoke Village is not a standalone facility but one of the areas that make up Ghibli Park. Ghibli Park is known for a design philosophy of “enjoying on foot,” making the most of the existing park’s nature rather than relying on large-scale development or flashy rides. Mononoke Village was born of that same idea, offering a rare strolling experience in which the world of story and the satoyama landscape flow seamlessly together. Check official information for details of each area.
