The Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art is located in the Higashisakura district of Higashi Ward, Nagoya. Occupying part of the Aichi Arts Center complex, it opened in October 1992, succeeding the Aichi Prefectural Culture Hall Art Museum that had opened in 1955.

History
Its predecessor, the Aichi Prefectural Culture Hall Art Museum, opened on 1 February 1955, making it the second public art museum in postwar Japan after the Museum of Modern Art, Kamakura. Carrying on that legacy, the present Aichi Prefectural Museum of Art opened on 30 October 1992 inside the Aichi Arts Center.
